Opus ISE Series Hybrid Low-Floor Bus
Transit's most innovative bus meets proven hybrid technology.
Transit systems now have a new tool available in their efforts to hold the
line on costs, build ridership and meet ever-increasing regulatory standards
for emissions. For the first time, Optima's new Opus ISE Series Hybrid
low-floor buses bring advanced technology to Under 30' and Under 35'
models, delivering powerful performance, fuel efficiency, reduced
maintenance and increased ridership appeal in one sleek package.
Utilizing road-proven ISE-Siemens ThunderVolt® hybrid technology built
around Siemens ELFA motors, generators and inverters - components
proven in more than 35 million miles of transit service - the Opus ISE
Series Hybrid uses a conventional internal combustion engine only to
generate electricity. The drive system is completely electric, offering
instant torque for faster acceleration in the stop-and-go conditions
common to transit applications. As a result, fuel economy is enhanced
significantly, while emission levels are reduced. Two ultracapacitor packs,
which store the generated electrical power, never require external
charging, so no offboard equipment is required.
Designed to minimize the need for service and repair, the Opus ISE
Series Hybrid's drive system is composed of a series of line-replaceable
units (LRUs) which can be easily removed or replaced as needed.
Diagnosis of drive system issues can be performed with a standard
laptop computer, eliminating the need to troubleshoot specific
ultracapacitor cells or components. This interchangeability
is enhanced by simplified maintenance and an extended
service life that ensures peak performance, year after year.
