316-779-7700 ext. 344 IndyGo unveils new Opus buses, enhances overall fleetIndianapolis, IN – February 20, 2006 – IndyGo today unveiled the newest members of its bus fleet. Passengers can now step aboard nine high performance Opus buses manufactured by Optima Bus Corporation, which are designed to increase comfort, maintenance and accessibility. "Every day, we look for ways to enhance our services to fit the needs of our customers while delivering quality public transportation using the best possible equipment," said Gilbert Holmes, IndyGo CEO and president. "Optima Bus Corporation has a reputation for building 'transit tough' products, and the Opus low-floor models will surely serve as a complement to our entire fleet. We invite residents to try them out and enjoy the ride." With room for up to 18 passengers seated in the low-floor area, the Opus can accommodate a total of 31 seated passengers. Similarly to IndyGo's current fleet, each bus features a kneeling step for passengers who experience difficulties with boarding or departing the bus. From a maintenance perspective, the Opus pairs its strong outer surface with a light overall weight. This combination results in less pollution and increased fuel economy. The buses are also known to contribute to less wear and tear on city streets. The Opus, which is less than 35 feet in length, features a colorful inside area and ergonomically designed operator's area. "It will be easy to spot the new Opus buses with their large windows and unique look," added Holmes. "With more than 28 fixed routes throughout greater Marion County, this latest enhancement gives residents another opportunity to use public transportation." The nine buses are now available throughout IndyGo's 28 fixed routes. From IndyGo News Media Contact: Ronnetta Slaughter, (317) 614-9266
