Purchases American Heritage Streetcar from Optima Bus CorporationWichita, KS – August 25, 2003 – Sandy Valley Transit Services, Inc. has recently purchased an American Heritage Streetcar from Optima Bus Corporation to service the area around Pikeville, KY. “The new trolley will be used as a means of public transportation around Pikeville and will also be utilized for many special occasions within the community,” said Greg Hamlin, Executive Director of Sandy Valley Transit Services, Inc. The state-of-the-art trolley bus will be used for a community transit route serving the city of Pikeville as well as the new East Kentucky Exposition Center currently under construction in Pikeville. In addition, the streetcar will service Pikeville College and will be used for many annual festivals and special events, such as hosting the Kentucky Senior Games. Furthermore, the trolley will serve as an ambassador to the region by taking tourists on special journeys through the beautiful Appalachian hills. “We are very fortunate to have a vehicle that can play so many different roles for the people of Pikeville,” said Hamlin, “it is a perfect complement to our beautiful city.” Manufactured at Optima Bus Corporation’s state of the art facility in Wichita , KS the 12-year Altoona Tested American Heritage Streetcar is made of a heavy-duty chassis that is backed by a 10-warranty and a fuel-efficient, low-emission Cummins ISBO2 engine.
