Streetcar Customers
Monterey, CA
MST purchased a fleet of 6 American Heritage Streetcar
trolley replicas from Optima Bus through a
public/private partnership with the City of Monterey,
Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Federal Transit Administration
and Municipal Services Group, a public sector financing
specialist. MST attributes their success to the appeal
of the trolleys themselves. The service offers an easy
way for people to move around downtown Monterey and
along the waterfront shops, restaurants and attractions
without traffic or parking congestion.
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
With their nostalgic charm, MetroTransit's 19 American
Heritage Streetcars are bringing record crowds into the
city's Bricktown historic district. While MetroTransit
had predicted ridership of 640 passengers per day within
five years of the "Oklahoma City Spirit" trolleys
introduction, that goal was reached in only four months.
Providence, Rhode Island
As increased tourism in Providence created parking
difficulties and traffic congestion, the Rhode Island
Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) purchased a fleet of
20 natural-gas-powered American Heritage Streetcars
for a new service called "LINK," which provides access
to anywhere in the city for only fifty cents.
The LINK Trolleys have attracted many new riders
who traditionally have not used public transportation.
